Top 3 Reasons Why Evangelizing With A Group Is Better

Why should you participate in an evangelism project?

Jesus gave us the great commission right before His ascension to Heaven. That commission for was us both individually and as a church. The responsibility in fulfilling what He asked is surely ours to do alone. But there are great reasons why evangelizing is better with a group. Individual conversations with people have their place and are usually quite interesting. Doing this work with others makes it dynamic and provides more than just camaraderie in doing the LORD’s work.

What should you expect when you decide to join a group of people who are like-minded in their desire to share the gospel with the lost? Maybe you are the one organizing the group. There are many benefits to evangelizing with a group. We’ll take a look at the top 3.

Evangelizing With A Group Takes More Commitment

Getting a group together to do anything will take some effort. You have to pick dates and times, get everyone up to speed on exactly what you will be doing, and get their buy-in on doing it. That puts some sweat equity in. Once you get everyone to buy into evangelizing with a group, you usually find they are committed to what you are endeavoring to do. There are some reasons why getting a group to commit is stickier than what you can do on your own.

For one, if you decide not to do something you have committed to do one day, mostly no one is going to know. We all have the best plans for a perfect life. The trouble is, our minds and our moods can easily derail what we planned to do at a moment’s notice. Why is it that people who work out with a trainer are more successful with fitness than those who do not? Someone is expecting them to show up and work out! Not to mention, you pay for a trainer. Putting some money behind your commitment is doing to help you overcome those lazy challenges, but not all the time.

When a group expects you to make good on your commitment to serve the LORD, 9.5 out of 10 times you show up. You have committed to the group and the group’s mission. Plus, you don’t want to look bad in front of your church friends. It’s a win-win.

Sharing The Gospel Can Be A Little Discouraging

When we do anything for the LORD, we should expect that there is going to be opposition. That is the nature of the enemy. He gets wind of us honoring the LORD, and he gets right to work trying to discourage us. That can look like a lot of things. Maybe we have a big argument with someone right before we are going to serve. Other times we don’t feel like we are doing anything important anyway. When we share the gospel with strangers, there will be those who do not like that we are doing that. Others will flat-out reject what we are trying to share with them. All those things can be a huge discouragement to fulfilling the great commission. That is why evangelizing with a group is so much better than going it alone.

When we are evangelizing with others, they have an opportunity to come alongside us and pray for us when we get discouraged. If we are out with a group evangelizing, they can help us with conversations with strangers if we get stuck or emotionally tripped up with the conversation. There is always safety in numbers. That is why it is better to be part of a group that wants to share Jesus with the lost. They will help you stay committed and keep you going when this kind of work gets hard.
