What To Cling To When The Whole World Goes Crazy

The bible is the anchor

A man throws an anchor down to the bottom of the ocean floor, which is a book.

The world feels heavy these days. The wars, on social media and off, make it hard to understand where the truth lies for a lot of people. This endless in and out tide of news and information makes it hard to identify anything real. When people don’t know where to hold on, they panic. Rightly they should. All other ground is sinking sand. When the whole world goes crazy, the lost want to go crazy with it.

What we see in America today is nothing more than fear. When people are afraid, they do things they normally wouldn’t do. They say things they don’t mean. We cannot negotiate with fear. If you are wondering how to minister to those who are too panicked to hear the truth, you are not alone. It’s a messy business right now, but that doesn’t mean there is no hope for them.

The Word Of God Is A Firm Foundation

The Word of God is the only truth there is. It is usually our last resort to comfort the lost, unfortunately. Why is it we want to withhold the one thing we know is the truth?

There are many reasons the people of God stop short of sharing God with others who are desperate for something to hold on to when the whole world goes crazy. Let’s face it. The whole world is going crazy now, and it’s gone crazy before. It will go crazy again. If we believe God’s Word is true, then it makes sense to tell the fearful and the panicked where they can put their trust. Doesn’t it?

For a lot of Christians out there in the trenches, dealing with the lost today, it’s about under-confidence in sharing God’s Word. Why? Because they don’t know enough of it to be able to deal with questions or objections. Their lack of knowledge makes them quiet. What does God’s Word say about this? Hosea 4:6. Not inclining your ear to the Word of God every day makes you spiritually dry. If that continues long enough, it will make you so spiritually dehydrated that you die.

We can’t give out to the lost what we do not have ourselves. If the Word of God is a firm foundation, we must stand on it first to save anyone else.

Secondly, we must live what we know. If we know the Word of God then the unsaved and panicked around us should note that we are not panicking right along with them. What does God’s Word have to say about what to do when we face trials? Isaiah 54:10

There are many passages about God’s promise to be with us in trials. He always promises to be with us. He never promised us a life without turmoil.

Being a Christian does not excuse us from hardship. Being in Christ means we have confidence in Him, no matter what the world throws at us. When the whole world goes crazy, we have Jesus. He is our anchor. If we want to help the lost find something to cling to, we should live like we have the solution to their problem.

The Peace Of God Transcends All Understanding

Reciting the Word of God to the lost isn’t enough to make them calm down when the whole world goes crazy. They need to let the Holy Spirit minister to them for that Good Word to take root. The only way to do that is prayer. Prayer is a powerful tool to subdue the enemy’s anxiety-laden attacks. Even for those who do not believe, many are comforted when a Believer prays for them. Bring the Word, but offer to pray for them. They need to know God hears their hearts, even if they are skeptical. There is something about a Believer’s prayer that makes people feel better. Always offer prayer with the Word.

No matter what anyone is facing, God’s peace can interrupt even the most troubled heart. It takes prayer to get there. Phillippians 4:6-7  Once we come to Him humbly and with gratitude in our hearts, He will hear our prayers and fill our hearts with His peace. Prayer over an unbeliever is a great way to demonstrate this and to encourage them to pray for themselves.

Being A Lighthouse To The Lost At Sea

We can be there for those who are being tossed here and there in search of the truth. We can point people in the right direction, but we need to prepare our hearts and minds to do so. Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness if you want to be the light that others draw near to in finding the truth.

People can see wisdom, but you have to seek it to find it. Ready yourselves, Church. The lost are looking for what they can cling to when the whole world goes crazy. Are you able to be the one to point them to shore?
